WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF YOU SIMPLY LOVED YOURSELF

Really though, what's the worst that could happen?

There has been a big push for self love happening through 2019, in fact it began earlier but I feel like it really gathered steam this year.

I'm all for it, all for self love, self care, self evolution, self awareness, self growth, self development, self accountability...all the self's, I'm into it.

I feel though, that the term SELF LOVE is getting blended in with a lot of other FAD terms and it's like as long as you SAY you're doing your self love work, then you've done it.

It's like buying all the books...the how to become a millionaire for dummies, or how to find the man / woman of your dreams once and for all, or how to lose the weight, or how to do god knows what. The SELF HELP book department is a world of it's own and I want to dive into that in another blog. It's almost as if BUYING the book, or paying your therapist once a month is ENOUGH. Owning and even reading all the self help books ISN'T doing the work, it's simply reading. Saying your focused on self love by going to the gym, meditating semi regularly, journalling, shit, even seeking friends to have some important challenging conversations is ONLY self love if you're also willing to dive deep and honour the dark.

{ Excuse me while I jump ship and bounce all over... I am coming back now}

SELF LOVE is a deep topic, it is beautiful and ugly all at the same time.

It requires work, a lot of work, deep diving and honouring your darkest emotions and truths instead of pretending they don't exist.

SELF LOVE is asking yourself what needs attention, what needs light, what needs healing, what needs patience, what needs kindness, what needs space.

It sometimes requires you to look at your environment, the people, the television shows, music, social media feeds etc. Asking the hard questions of "Do they serve me? Do they bring me closer to my better highest self? Do they help me feel loving towards myself"

SELF LOVE is seeing your darker sides, your shadow side, your secrets, your "faults" your parts unknown and unseen to the rest of the world, and cherishing them. SELF LOVE is acknowledging and accepting the dark, honouring the dark, and loving yourself in and through it. It requires seeing the hard stuff, thanking the hard stuff for working as a teacher, a guide, an opportunity for growth. It requires ripping apart the stories you've been telling for years. It requires looking directly at yourself, your whole self, and asking what it is that holds you back from feeling softness, compassion kindness and love towards yourself ... EVERY SINGLE MOMENT OF THE DAY, NO MATTER THE PAIN OR STRUGGLE OR MISAKE YOU MAY HAVE MADE.

You have darkness and you are loved

You have lied and you are loved

You have stolen and you are loved

You have secrets and you are loved

You have childhood trauma and you are loved

You have broken hearts and you are loved

You have addictions and you are loved

REMEMBER THAT GREATNESS CAN COEXIST WITH HARD

SELF LOVE requires a sizeable chunk of self RESPECT as well.

No longer allowing certain people to imprint their bullshit onto you, this includes their opinions of you.

No longer skimping on your sleep

No longer allowing your thoughts about yourself to be disrespectful, to be anything other than thoughts you have of those you love and admire most in your life.

No longer neglecting your health because it's "quick" or "easy" or "cheap" or even worse, because you "don't deserve it"

No longer staying in relationships, platonic or romantic that do not lift you WAY THE HELL UP, that don't support your wishes, wants, dreams, and basic needs.

No longer holding onto pain and negative feelings towards those who may have hurt you. Leaving them unforgiven will only leave you with heaviness and pain in your heart. Taking up quality space that you require AND DESERVE for LOVE.

TO BE COMPLETELY CLEAR, I AM NOT SUGGESTING THIS IS A WALK IN THE PARK, NOR THAT IT DOESN'T COME WITH SOME FRESH PAIN OF IT'S OWN BREAKING THROUGH OLD PATTERNS. AND TO BE VERY CLEAR I AM WALKING THIS WITH YOU. EVERYDAY ALSO, ON MY OWN JOURNEY TO SUSTAINABLE SELF LOVE

AND I KNOW IN THE TRUEST OF TRUE, THAT WE ARE WORTHY OF ALL THE LOVE IN THE WORLD, FROM OURSELVES FIRST AND FOREMOST.

XO KY
